The RS-25 engine! Its history can be traced back to the 60's during development for an upgraded Saturn V engine. Designed by Rocketdyne (now Aerojet Rocketdyne), they were used as the Space Shuttle's 3 main engines and after being retired will now be used as the 4 engines on the SLS core stage. The RS-25 burns cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. Improvements in design and manufacturing over the years now have the engine producing 418,000 lbf at sea level with a specific impulse of 366 seconds at sea level. An amazing engine that has taken many astronauts to space, and soon to the moon!
